Traditional Wood Carving

This historical door from Jeddah's AlBalad dates back to the 1600s. It was acquired by Laurence of Arabia and has been preserved at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England. It's excellent condition makes it a unique case study of Hejazi design and wood carving techniques. The students began this project with geometrical analysis and then used the pierced carving craft technique to recreate the door's main decorative elements.
