The Roshan Project

Students gained insight into technical construction methodologies of rushans and windows via field surveys of AlBalad, historical images of Beit Al Mal, and books on traditional hejazi architecture. They carefully analysed mangour screens, decorative carvings, fretwork as well as panelling for the taj and base. They worked in groups generating many designs for the prototype often creating 1:1 scale drawings to help them accurately plan all details. The decorative panelling included geometric and floral motifs, pathways, textures and chamfers achieved through joinery, inlay and carving techniques.
