Qamarya - Traditional Gypsum Carving

Local Hejazi motifs are analysed in depth through the study of geometry. In these pieces, students added pathways to a pattern found in Beit Jokhdar, a prominent historic house of AlBalad. The addition of pathways to the pattern was key to applying the Qamaryas technique which uses piercing and stained glass to play with light and achieve colourful effects.

Qamarayas; gypsum, stained glass.
